UNIBEN management finally speaks on tuition fee increment and other trending issues
Management of the University of Benin has described as false the publication by some online media that they had increased their tuition due to poor funding from the Federal Government.
The Public Relations Officer of the institution, Mr. Osasuyi Michael, in a chat with our correspondent today in his office said the information is totally untrue and not from the institution. He also urged every parents to always verify such information from the school’s website.
Please be informed that contrary to the post on increased fees making the rounds, the University of Benin has not increased fees, and has no plans to do so.
“Let me quickly assure you that the information is false and we do not know where the issue is coming from.
“We want to appeal to every parents and students to always verify any information on the school portal. Any other information contrary to what we have on our website is false”.
Speaking on the University’s admission screening exercise, Mr. Osasuyi stated that contrary to the report making rounds, the university is yet to conduct any screening exercise.
“Let me quickly state that the University of Benin is yet to conduct any screening for admission seekers.
“Once we begin screening, we will make the information available to public domain.
While commenting on the issue of ASUU strike, the school PRO stated that such information can only be discussed by the ASUU Chairman.
According to Mr. Osasuyi, “whether there will be strike or not, whether UNIBEN chapter of ASUU will join or not, that I cannot say. Only the UNIBEN chapter ASUU chairman has the power to comment on that because it’s a union matter and not management’s“.
Recall that ASUU in a statement by the Chairman of the University of Ibadan chapter, Dr. Deji Omole, on Monday reportedly said that 38 higher institutions had hiked their tuition fees.
Among others, the union had reportedly listed the University of Benin among the 38 schools, stating that the tuition fee had increased from N12,000 to N49,500.
